Sunny Pets is not a commercial facility. Unlike a dog hotel with cages and kennels, when your dog joins the Sunny Pets pack it's like they're staying with a neighbor or at a friend's place. They get access to our entire Sunny Pets home including automatic filtered dog water fountains, dog tv, our large shaded backyard and when weather is less than perfect (which is rare in San Diego) we are fully equipped with AC/heating.

Due to limited space, there is no room for crates or any way to otherwise confine your dog. That's why it's important that your dog pass the temperament assessment and be well behaved. This isn't always the best fit for all dogs as some dogs misbehave when not confined. If your dog tends to go through trash, chew furniture, or otherwise misbehave, this might not be the best fit. Pet parents are responsible for any and all damages that their pets may cause to personal property, themselves, other pets or people.

Your dog's safety is the number one priority.

Sunny Pets never takes on more dogs than can be managed safely. During the peak holiday season there may be more dogs in the pack than during the low season. Some dogs have been with Sunny Pets for over a decade and they're in their golden years with low energy and low activity needs. Other dogs are young and spry and need more attention and plenty of time at the dog park, running around, socializing for extended periods. The pack is always changing on a daily basis and depending on who has joined the pack there may be a limit enforced.

We know that some rescue dogs have a history of abuse and mistreatment which has resulted in behavioral issues at no fault of their own. We are so grateful that you have decided to take on the responsibility of loving and caring for your dog. However, we aren't equipped to handle dogs that may become aggressive towards another dog or person.

The safety of the Sunny Pets pack is our number one goal. Any dog that can pass the temperament assessment is welcome to join the pack

All dogs must be fixed, fully house trained (without the use of medication, confinement, or pee pads), up to date on all their vaccinations, be at least 12 months old and pass an in-person temperament assessment in order to join the pack.

Sunny Pets would love to have your dog join the pack! All dogs must pass a temperament assessment first. There are no exceptions. This might not always be possible due to your schedule. If you are going to visit San Diego and would like your dog to join the pack it's best to schedule in advance.

The temperament assessment takes about 15 minutes at a local dog park and gives Sunny Pets an opportunity to observe your dog's behavior around other dogs and people they've never met. You also get a chance to meet the team face to face and go over your dog's care in more detail.

We understand that emergencies arise without notice and we're more than happy to be of assistance. Our insurance requires us to vet any dogs that join the pack beforehand. All dogs must pass a temperament assessment before they can join the pack. Your dog's safety is just as important to us as the safety of all the dogs in our care.
